About the seller

Taz Bano
I have been a Moonj artisan for more than the past 40 years of my life. I cannot tell for how many exact years the craft has been practiced by the women in my family but I do know that my grandmother taught my mother, and she taught me. It's a major source of my family income. I try to do my best at turning the wild grass into a work of art and bring it to an efficient use. I use symmetrical designs or floral patterns in various colors available to add on to the weaves beauty. All I need is the Moonj grass peeled and dried, a pair of scissors, a Sirahi (which is a needle with a wooden handle) and some colors. After that, my hands do the rest of the work of art. I am not so well-versed with technology, but god has given me my daughters to guide me through. I am thankful for my family, the craft, and life, as it is.
